RAJKOT: While investigating into allegations of sodomy and molestation of a minor boy studying at a madrasa in Mangrol taluka of Junagadh, the police made shocking revelations. Cops found the accused maulana had sexually assaulted at least seven other students too, it disclosed on Sunday.
Based on a sodomy complaint filed by a 15-year-old student about 20 days ago, the police had earlier arrested the 25-year-old maulana. On Sunday, cops also arrested the 55-year-old trustee of the madrasa for not taking appropriate action against the maulana despite a complaint filed by the minor student.
The trustee was booked for abetting the crime, said police inspector S I Maghrana, investigating the case.
He said that the accused duo were booked under sections 377, 323, 506 (2) and 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
According to case details, a 15-year-old boy had lodged a sodomy complaint against the maulana based on which the latter was arrested.
Police inspector Maghrana said that they talked to other students who revealed that the maulana allegedly sodomized and molested the boys by luring them with money or by threatening to kill them.
Investigation revealed that maulana had started exploiting the boys after Diwali last year, said Maghrana. He added that so far seven students have come out and said that they were sodomized or molested by the maulana. The number of victims could rise, the police said.
Sources said that maulana had been teaching Urdu in the madarsa for the past two years. Talking about the trustee, Maghrana said that he aided the crime by not taking action against the maulana, hence he was booked for abetment.
