40-year-old man killed his wife by strangulation in Northeast Delhi on the suspicion that she was having an affair, the police said. A murder case was lodged at Dayalpur police station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said they received a PCR call in this regard at around 12.46 am on Wednesday from Chand Bagh. The deceased has been identified as Shabnam, 34, wife of Umeed, 40.
The DCP said the couple, who had been married for seven years, lived on rented premises in Chand Bagh. “Umeed is a carpenter. On October 25, the couple fought with each other and subsequently Umeed strangulated his wife, after which she lost consciousness,” he added.
Shabnam was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where she was declared dead. “They have three children together and a nine-year-old daughter from Shabnam’s previous marriage,” said the DCP.
