A 19-year-old stalker from Beed has been arrested by Gamdevi police for allegedly posting a 23-year-old woman’s personal photos on social media. The police said the accused wanted to marry her but as the woman married someone else, he initially threatened her and then posted her photos on Instagram. The police have also pressed charges of rape against the teenager along with criminal intimidation and defamation.
According to the police, the complainant and the teenager got acquainted on Instagram in April 2022.
In her statement to police, the woman said her cousin sister had posted a picture with her following which the accused messaged and they started chatting often.
“When her parents came to know that she was chatting with a teenager, her parents started looking for a prospective groom and fixed her marriage on June 15, 2022. She was to marry a 29-year-old man in May 2023,” said an officer.
However, the complainant kept chatting with the teenager and in March, the complainant had gone to her grandmother’s house in south Mumbai for shopping.
“I was to go for my wedding shopping with a friend. So I went to my grandmother’s house but the teenager who was in Mumbai that time, insisted on going for shopping with him,” read her statement.
“He took me in confidence and forced me to go with him to Grant Road. There he said that I must be tired as I was not used to travelling in local trains. So he offered to go to a hotel, where he alleged that he had called a local vendor to show her bridal clothes,” the 23-year-old told police.
The woman further claimed that the accused forced himself on her in the hotel room and secretly made a video of the act.
“Since then the teenager was forcing her to marry him. But the accused claimed that she betrayed him and married another 29-year-old man in May due to which the teenager again reached out to her on July 10 and threatened her,” said an officer.

The teenager subsequently shared her personal photos on Instagram. And after her mother-in-law saw the photos, she enquired about the accused who then further informed her parents.
The woman then with the help of her uncle reported the matter at a police station in Navi Mumbai following which the case was transferred to Gamdevi police station in the last week of July.
Senior police inspector Vivek Bhonsle said the accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
